Building energy independence, one country house at a time.
Blue Spark Studio is a Tokyo-based team of engineers and installers dedicated to reliable off-grid power for homes beyond the reach of the utility grid.
A company that started with one unreliable power line
Blue Spark Studio was founded by a small group of electrical engineers who kept hearing the same complaint from friends and family in rural Japan: the power would go out, sometimes for days, and nobody could tell them when it would come back.
We started by converting a single mountain cabin to solar and battery power as a weekend project. Word spread through the local community faster than we expected, and within a year we were fielding requests from three prefectures. What began as a favor for a neighbor became a full-time practice in off-grid engineering.
Energy independence shouldn't be a luxury reserved for cities
Homeowners near the end of a rural feeder line are often the last to get power restored after a storm and the first to lose it. We exist to remove that dependency entirely, not patch around it with a smaller backup battery.
Every system we design is meant to run a household indefinitely, through every season Japan produces, without a monthly reliance on the utility grid at all.
A short list of principles we don't compromise on
- Honest sizing. We size systems for your lowest-sun month, not your best one. A quote that only works in July isn't a quote we'll give you.
- No hidden equipment swaps. The panel, battery and inverter brands in your proposal are the ones installed on your property. We don't substitute cheaper hardware after signing.
- Local accountability. The technicians who install your system are based in Japan and return for your maintenance visits, not a rotating subcontractor pool.
- Plain-language proposals. Every quote explains why each component was chosen, in terms a non-engineer can follow, before you're asked to sign anything.
Every project follows the same four-stage process
We don't sell equipment first and figure out the design later. Every engagement starts with a site survey, moves through a design our engineers stand behind, then installation and long-term monitoring.
That order matters: it's the only way a system ends up sized to your actual roof, your actual appliances and your actual winter, rather than a generic package built for an average customer who doesn't exist.
Two decades of installations, one region at a time
- 2006 Founded in Tokyo with a single crew serving Nagano and Yamanashi.
- 2012 Opened a second technician base to cover Gunma and Shizuoka.
- 2018 Introduced remote monitoring across all active installations.
- 2024 Passed 1,200 completed off-grid and hybrid systems nationwide.
Backed by warranties we actually stand behind
Every installation carries a ten-year workmanship warranty from us, on top of the manufacturer warranties that come with the panels, batteries and inverters themselves — typically 12 to 25 years depending on the component.
Our technicians are certified installers for every brand we carry, and our support plans are built around real response-time commitments, not vague promises.
